Hey so. . [10 Jan 2006|08:02pm]

I'm going to be annoying & promote the next production coming up in a few days.
(I know we barely had time to breathe!)

Ticket prices are $10 --
we are going to be performing at the Maverick Theatre (across the Train station in Downtown Fullerton)
There are directions & a phone number on the website if you wish to go.
It will be lots of fun with lots of energy,
so come & have a good time because we all know you're just
going to be sitting on your ass reading a romance novel sipping chamomile tea.
Or otherwise being the lame Troy student that you all are,
you will be attempting to study for finals or write that essay that seems to always waver from the point of completion.
So procrastinate with Troy Drama ensemble & get your butt over to the Maverick.

okay I'm done.

the myspace yearbook debate

what did you think about this year's yearbook?

I thought the yearbook this year was very well done but I still have some complaints.

But the kudos come first because you guys really did do a great job.

First of all, the cover. It's GORGEOUS. I don't like the stereotypical sparkly shiny IN YOUR FACE covers most schools seem to go for. The neutral color theme and the rough fabric-ish feel of the cover made ours more classy and awesome in my opinion.

COLOR!!!! Color is awesome. I like color. Color is cool. Our yearbook is colorful yaaaaay!

Choosing to make senior pictures in color and other classes in black and white. This was a good choice because 1) it does make seniors more special 2) color pictures are more accurate in portraying uglyness. However the senior pictures are done at a nice studio and are edited so everybody looks pretty even if they are in color. the rest of us get the crappy gym shots. but we're in black and white so it doesnt matter.

Personalized first page. WHen i saw that.. i almost cried. Well not really. But i do like it a lot. It makes it easier to identify which yearbook is yours, it makes the yearbook more special, plus its one more picture of me in the yearbook which is always a good thing (haha jk). Also, i dont think anybody knew what the strange pictures yearbook people took of us in english class (dont look at the camera! ooooh look! look at the trashcan!) were intended for so it was a nice surprise. I'm not a big fan of the "us" picture though. but that's not really important.

now.. complaints. :)

Quotes.. A lot of people's quotes seem either totally taken out of context and manuvered, shallow and meaningless, or just completely fabricated. But this was true for last year's yearbook too. I knew so many people saying "I never said that! Where are they getting this **** from? What the **** are they talking about?" There are also pictures where the people's names aren't right, or other misc infos (which may seem trivial but do mean a lot to the people mentioned) were wrong. For example, in the bando page, Lydia Noh was named as the drum major of the band when she is not. This mistake probably doesn't mean anything to the people outside of band and even the majority of the band. But think about how the drum major must feel. I haven't talked to him about it so I don't know whether he cares or not... But if I was a senior whose senior yearbook didn't mention the fact that he was the drum major and rather said that somebody else was... I'd be pissed. But that's just me.

Complete ignorance of colorguard. The moment I got my yearbook, the first thing I looked for was the Colorguard page. I was the Assistant Captain of our school's colorguard and I was given the position of Captain for the 05-06 school year. Last year two pages were given to Colorguard (unfortunatly I did not buy a yearbook last year.. damn) so I was looking forward to seeing what you guys did for us this year... And there is no colorguard.. Do we not exist? It's not enough that nobody knows what we do anyway, we have to be ignored in the yearbook too? There was one tiny picture (maybe 1 inch by 2 inches) of our captain in the band section. And then there was a picture of the whole winterguard in the arts section where they just give the picture of all the teams and everybody's name. There is no mention of what we did, our accomplishments of this year, etc. Also, we are listed in the arts section next to all the music groups, drama, dance, etc. Seeing as how we only get PE and elective credits for Colorguard and NOT arts credits, isn't it more fitting that we are listed with the sports teams where the captains' names are given, etc? I saw this and yeah i was pissed. But i thought, no biggy I'm sure we'll be in next year's yearbook. And then I talked to Castillo about and ended up crying like a little baby in his office. -_-;; But yeah seriously I was fu*king disappointed..

Of course it doesn't help that cheerleading gets 4 pages. Technically 6 if you count the giant picture of cheerleaders in the 2 pages preceeding the 4 pages devoted to cheer. Yes cheerleaders are fascinating, they work their asses off, and they're good. But you couldn't give Colorguard just ONE of those 6 pages? Or what about the 3-4 pages dance got? Same as cheer, dance is good. I love dance, i used to dance competitively (not at Troy but at the studio that i used to go to. many of the dancers from our school go there too), and i am proud of troy's dance team's accomplishments.. but still. what happened to "it's not just about winning?"

Speaking of winning, troy is WAAAAY too obsessed with winning. ..1 rule of this school is, if you don't win you're worth shit. But that's another rant and not about yearbook so i wont talk about that.

I should be studying for finals not ranting about yearbook on myspace..

Overall, good job yearbook. You guys did a good job this year.
